Walk under the bridge at Shooters by the Leif Erikson bust in Cleveland June 7, 2019
One of the things we like most about the Flats in Cleveland is that they were, and most still are, working areas. The diverse bridges work, ships carry ore and other materials and it is all mixed in with the entertainment establishments.
For years there has been a bust of Viking Explorer Leif Erikson near the entrance to Shooters on the west bank of Cleveland's Flats. In fact the Scandinavian community of Cleveland, including those from Norway, Sweden and Denmark gather at the bust of Leif Erikson every year. Leif Ericson was a Norse explorer regarded as the first European to land in North America (excluding Greenland), nearly 500 years before Christopher Columbus.

On a recent visit, Dan Hanson noticed that now you can walk under the piece of the bridge from the parking lot to the Cuyahoga River and see some of the ironwork of the bridge.

Of course there are other great views from Shooters such as this shot of a working ship passing under a lift bridge heading to Lake Erie from the Cuyahoga River.
