US Army 236th birthday
Rock & Roll Hall of Fame - June 14, 2011

The Joint Veterans Commission of Cuyahoga County presented a special event at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.

Along with a Flag Day celebration they honored the US Army on its 236th birthday and also held a Naturalization Ceremony for new US citizens.

The event began with the introduction by Garry Rezabek, SFC Ret. US Army of the day's Master of Ceremonies: William Willoughby, Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army.

Rimantas Ray Saikus, President of the Joint Veterans Commission of Cuyahoga County, spoke of his own personal experience with citizenship as a "citizen by choice.'

Sergeant Eddie Horne and Sergeant Johanna Wright were named Newton D. Baker Greater Cleveland Chapter of Association of the US Army Soldiers of the Year.

Lt Col Patrick Powers, Commanding Officer of the US Army Recruiting Battalion in Cleveland, spoke about the community covenant. He was joined by Cuyahoga County council members C. Ellen Connally and Jack Schron.

Judge Christopher Boyko spoke about the US Flag and invited 2 members of the audience up to tell what the Flag means to them.

Judge Boyko then told a personal story of how his grandmother sent all 5 of her sons overseas to fight for the US in World War II.

After the Blessing of American Flags by Chaplain George Hankins, Lisa Padro-Baire sang God Bless America. The Sons of the American Revolution retired the Colors.

A birthday cake celebrating the US Army's big day was cut - with an Army saber of course.
