Maintenance Schedule

Q. Can you help me establish a realistic maintenance schedule for my 2001 Impala?

I'll be paying to have it done, since I know nothing about cars - so I don't want to do any more than I have to, but I also don't want to neglect it. I'd appreciate your help.

A. Always do more than you should when it comes to maintenance.

Remember you depend on your car to get you where you need to go and not break down on the highway. But here are a few things that should be done regularly.

  1. Lube oil and filter (every 6 thousand miles)
  2. Rotate your tires every 12 thousand miles(this really does increase their life)
  3. Replace your fuel filter every 25 thousand miles
  4. Have your coolant, trans fluid, and brakes checked every 25 thousand miles.
