Did you know that there is only one washboard factory still operating in the entire country and it's right here in southeast Ohio (Logan)? Did you know that there is a Sauerkraut Festival every year in Waynesville, Ohio or that Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall were married in Mansfield, Ohio?
If you are interested in this type of information (and who isn't?), or if you like to see one-of-a-kind sites and hear one-of-a-kind tales, this is the book for you.
Written by Fox8 reporter, Neil Zurcher, Ohio Oddities is a collection of the many strange, but interesting facts and places he has discovered on his one-tank trips. He also talks about people he's met with bizarre hobbies as well as collectors with some rare collectibles.
In short, easy-to-read paragraphs on each of well over one hundred items of interest, Neil invites you to discover Ohio the way he has - one short jaunt at a time. Even if you never go to the sites he writes about, I think you will find the book to be pleasant reading.
You don't have to leave your armchair to be both amused and amazed at the people and objects he has encountered. He provides addresses and phone numbers, where applicable, and gives just enough information on each of his choices to pique your interest.
In addition to being a book you'll want to read yourself, it is a wonderful gift for the person who has everything. Chances are they don't have access to a Giant Easter Basket (Lorain) or have ever had a 21 scoop ice cream sundae served in a kitchen sink (Medina).
