The Tearaways
RetroActive

The Tearaways RetroActive

Dirty Water Records announced the release of "RetroActive," a comprehensive compilation by California's own power-pop legends, The Tearaways. This album encapsulates over 40 years of pure power pop from the band that has been a staple in the indie pop scene since their formation in Goleta, California.

The Tearaways began at a local swap meet, where a group of friends, bonded by their love for second-hand vinyl albums, '60s movies, '50s fashion, muscle cars, surfboards, and guitars, decided to start making music that echoed their passions. With a sound that combines the British Invasion with the California sun, The Tearaways have been delighting audiences with their infectious melodies and nostalgic vibes.

"RetroActive" brings together an unparalleled collection of songs, produced by some of the music industry's most respected names including Earl Mankey, Tom Werman, Ron Dante, Neil Averon, and Ed Stasium. This compilation marks the first time these tracks have been gathered in one place, offering fans and newcomers alike a treasure trove of power-pop excellence.

The band, known for their appearances at International Beatleweek Festival and their performances at venues from the Cavern Club in Liverpool, has always maintained a commitment to the classic pop sound while infusing it with their unique flair. Over the years, The Tearaways have garnered a dedicated following, with fans including notable figures like Tom Hanks and Piers Morgan Their appearances gained them another famous fan, Joey Molland of Badfinger, who used The Tearaways as his back-up band both in the United States and in England.

The Tearaways band

I really liked the CD. The songs seemed familiar, even though they are new. The harmonies are reminiscent of those great bands of the 60's. I especially liked the driving drums. That drummer is something else! I expect that this will be a great summer cruising CD.

There are 15 songs on the CD and not a bad one in the bunch. The Wrecking Crew had snips of old stuff included. An instant favorite.

Those of us of a certain age will get a kick out of the song Text. How true!

My other personal favorites were:

  • If I had it
  • Girls who love cars
  • Angelyne
  • Jessica Something
  • I'm Lost
But they are all good. You can load the CD and listen straight through.

If you are like me and the "music" of the last 20 years or so just can't compare to what I grew up with, you will enjoy this release by The Tearaways. Rock on!
