Ruby is a 90-year-old lady who lost her husband about two months before she called us. She has always owned a Boxer, and not a month after the death of her husband, she had to put down her Boxer companion of ten years because of a painful progressive hip disease.
She called us wanting another Boxer. Her family and friends suggested that, at her age, she might consider a smaller, "lap" dog, but Ruby would have none of it - for her, there is no other breed!
"Greta" was a four-year-old female Boxer in our rescue at the time. She was found, homeless and starving, in an abandoned building.
In her foster home, Greta put on weight, and played nicely with the other dogs and family children. She had a calm, sweet temperament.
Once she had all her shots, was fed and cleaned up, we united Ruby and Greta. It was love at first sight!
Greta has a nice fenced in yard to play in, and a loving new "forever mom" who takes her for walks, and to the groomers for weekly shampoos and "doggie pedicures."
Ruby calls us once in a while to tell us what an angel Greta is, and how they are happy to have found each other.
