Split Pea and Barley Soup

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb green split peas
  • 1 cup of barley
  • 10cups of water
  • 2 lbs ham bone with plenty of meat left on it
  • 6 cloves of garlic, chopped
  • 3 onions, diced
  • 2 cups of chopped celery
  • 1 cup of carrots, chopped
  • 2 tsp oregano
  • six medium potatoes, quartered
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • .)

Instructions:
  • Rinse peas and barley (and sort to remove pebbles)
  • Add to the water, and bring to a boil.
  • Add remaining ingredients and allow to simmer for many hours, stirring often
  • If soup gets too thick, add more water and continue to simmer
