Norway MapleTree
Loaded with Seeds

Q: I have a Norway Maple that is loaded with seeds throughout the season.

Is there any way I can reduce or prevent the seeds?

A: About the only practical way to reduce the amount of seeds is to thin the tree out by removing live branches that will bear flowers and fruit (seeds) next year.

When thinning, you should never remove more than 25% of the foliage in any one year. Commonly, only about 10-15% thinning is needed.

While you're at it, remove deadwood as well. This will improve the appearance and overall health of the tree.

You should consider enlisting the aid of a qualified arborist in your area to perform the work for you professionally.
