From the sides, this artwork doesn't seem to depict anything or anyone.
When you are at the proper angles, the individual slices come together to form a recognizable image.
The art is located at a new RTA Transit Center at East 21st Street and Prospect Avenue on the Cleveland State University campus. The sculpture, by local artist Michael Murphy, is composed of layers of steel plates positioned to create a 5-foot tall bust.
Governor Ted Strickland, Congresswoman Marcia Fudge and Congressman Dennis Kucinich, Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson, former 11th District Congressman Louis Stokes, CSU President Dr. Ron Berkman and Federal Transit Authority Deputy Administrator Therese McMillan were in attendance at the unveiling.
By now you should be able to recognize the face of former Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones who passed away young in 2008. Stephanie Tubbs Jones was a strong supporter of public transit and was instrumental in securing funding for this building.
